Les Brûle-Parfums (ink on paper, 90 × 90 cm) is a drawing developed from multiple sketches made in Istanbul in 2017.
The illustration conveys a fantasy, an idea of the East, and includes foreground elements drawn in the Louvre. By conflating temporal boundaries it undermines the historical truthfulness of images.
In the background a landscape appears, the very one that I had before my eyes when drawing on the roof of a multi-storey carpark in Karaköy, just near Galata Tower in Istanbul.
